Welcome from the Principal
I am delighted to welcome you to the North Birmingham Academy website. We hope that it provides you with useful information about our Academy and our vision for its future.
At North Birmingham Academy, we are determined that our students succeed and leave us as confident, articulate and aspirational young people, fully equipped for life and work in the 21st century.
We have high expectations for our students and have created an environment in which each individual is supported and challenged to achieve their full potential, both inside and outside the classroom. Accordingly, we expect our students to be ready to learn, to work hard and to take pride in their own and their Academy's achievements.
We believe working together enables success and, as such, are committed to developing positive relationships with our local community, schools and businesses.
Results, results, results
We are delighted that, in the summer of 2011, we exceeded our government target figure two years early. A remarkable 94% of our students achieved 5 or more A*-C grades at GCSE, with 43% achieving these grades including English and maths. Our results are significantly above the national average placing NBA in the top 8% of schools nationally. In addition, our first group of students to complete their A Levels achieved an overall pass rate of 91% with many gaining As and A*s. Excitingly, every student who applied to university has been offered a place and they are going on to study a range of courses including Criminology, Media, Art and Nursing. I wish them all the very best and am confident that they will do the academy proud.
Times of change
In the last year, a number of exciting developments and initiatives have taking shape at the academy, including our successful mentoring initiative. Our inspirational Sixth Formers have been trained as peer mentors to the younger students at the academy and the scheme is having a very positive impact on student leadership and progress.
We have a very visible sign of the rapid progress being made at the academy in the form of our fantastic new building which we can see developing on a daily basis ready for our exciting move in 2013. The new building will provide a state-of-the-art learning environment for our students in which to thrive and succeed as well as a resource for our local community. We enter 2012 at an exciting stage of our development, proud of the things we have achieved to date and excited about our promising future.
