Inspiring Creative Minds (4 images)

In February six Year 10 Btec art students took a trip to an interactive gallery in West Bromwich to broaden their art skills and give them ideas to inspire their own work. The visit supports the current work they are doing for their course. During the day they participated in two workshops; ?light drawing? which explored the creative and innovative photographic technique and ?in my pocket? which enlarged small objects to make them look giant.

Turf Turning Ceremony (21 images)

Friday 9 September 2011 - The communities of Erdington, Kingstanding and Perry Common took one step closer to a state-of-the-art new school building at a turf-cutting ceremony. The event at North Birmingham Academy marked the start of building work on the 23.6 million pound project.

Enchantment Week (4 images)

During July, North Birmingham Academy launched a fantastic new initiative called Enchantment Week. During this Arts week all lessons across the Academy had a Fairy Tale theme and a strong creative focus that encouraged students to develop their artistic and creative flair. As part of this ingenious initiative, groups of students worked with artists in residence as well as with an Art-textiles specialist In drama lessons students created their own fairy tales and sketches based on various fairy tale characters. Meanwhile, in music lessons, students worked with a musical theatre artist producing songs from fairy tale musicals. Students used their time in dance lessons to choreograph a dance with a fairy tale theme and a street/ hip hop bias. The imaginative project demonstrated the benefits of North Birmingham Academy?s specialist status in Performing Arts which encourages students to think more creatively and develops their confidence. The culmination of Enchantment Week was a magical performance that included performances from members of staff.

Villa Park provides inspiration (4 images)

Photography students are making the most of an exciting photography project this term as they head down to Villa Park, the home of Aston Villa Football Club, every Friday to photograph different aspects of the grounds and the facilities. Working with digital photography and film, the students are then using Apple Mac laptops to produce a fantastic and varied range of work. As well as getting to walk down the players tunnel to the pitch, the students have exclusive access to all the behind the scenes facilities. Their finished work will be displayed in an exhibition held at the ground on Friday 4 March, as well as going some way to boosting their grades in the subject.
