Community Inspired Art

During the summer term, Year 7, 8 and 9 students took part in Arts Week, an annual showcase and celebration of the strengths and successes of the arts at North Birmingham Academy. This year the theme of the week was ‘Community Matters’ and all lessons focused on elements of community/ folk based art, drama and performance.

Students enjoyed workshops in contemporary dance, Indian Dhol drumming, spray paint art and they also devised a piece of drama in collaboration with pupils from Hawthorn Primary School and the Round Midnight Theatre Company.

A superbly produced evening performance was the culmination of the week long project. Our dancers were sensational and impressed the audience with their contemporary pieces and the Dhol drummers made an impact with their vibrant and rhythmic performance and got everyone’s feet tapping. The spray painted backdrop for the stage wowed onlookers and gave a thought provoking and different perspective to graffiti as a form of art.
