Year 10 engineering students at North Birmingham Academy discussed the finer points of sheet metal production and their career paths as engineers this week with Mr Keith Chadwick, Managing Director of Radshape Sheetmetal Ltd, which produces precision fabrications for companies such as Pro-Drive, Morgan Motors, Bentley, and even Aston Martin!
A group of Year 4 pupils from Deykin Avenue Junior School have just completed an innovative and creative World Cup themed textiles project at the North Birmingham Academy. The six week long project, which ran every Tuesday afternoon for two and a half hours, focused on teaching the pupils about African patterns and designs to create their own fabrics to be made u[p into a booklet.
Nine Year 7 students from the North Birmingham Academy had the rare opportunity to attend and take part in a paralympic and Olympic events day as part of the Birmingham National Schools sports week.
As we come to the end of the summer term and a momentous 2010 (so far) I would like to share with you my feeling of pride to be part of this new Academy. We have witnessed how our students are flourishing in their new environment and how staff, parents, local primary schools, local businesses and the public in general have worked with us, in partnership, to make North Birmingham Academy a success story and a true hub for this community.
This week North Birmingham Academy proved that not only its students but also its staff have high aspirations for their own education and careers.
Friday 9 July, this week North Birmingham Academy launched an exciting new initiative called Explore Science Week giving local primary school pupils exposure to science lessons and equipment few their age have the opportunity to explore.
