Special Educational Needs (SEN)

It is estimated that 1 in 5 children may have special educational needs (SEN) at some point in their school career. North Birmingham Academy aims to enable pupils with SEN to meet their full potential, to be included fully in their school and wider community and become successful adults.

The SEN team comprises of:

  • a Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator (SENCO)
  • a Behaviour Co-ordinator (BECO)
  • a SEN administrator
  • a Higher level Teaching Assistant (HLTA)
  • Team of Teaching Assistants (TAs)

Students are supported in a variety of ways according to their needs:

  • Teaching Assistants
  • Learning Support Centre (B3)
  • Reading recovery
  • Numeracy recovery
  • Anger Management
  • Lunch time clubs
  • 1:1 tutorials

Students may also be supported by outside agencies:

  • Specialist Support Service
  • Educational Psychologists
  • Behaviour Support Services
  • Communication and Autism Team
  • Pupil in School Support
  • Sensory Support Service
  • School Nurse

Partnership with parents is an essential part of he work of the SEN team in enabling students to succeed.
