All students study PSHE in Years 7 to 9. At North Birmingham Academy, PSHE and Citizenship are both studied in Years 10 and 11, with Citizenship a popular choice for GCSE.
Key Stage 3 PSHE is seen as an important foundation and springboard for students who choose to study Citizenship at GCSE level. Our Key Stage 3 course should be seen as a relevant, progressive and coherent whole.
Areas of study during the Key Stage will include:
Students follow a two year PSHE statutory course which covers areas such as Teen Pregnancies, before looking at life after education through Careers and Financial Management. Students who opt to take GCSE Citizenship follow the Ed-Excel course. To obtain a GCSE grade, students are expected to complete a Coursework Campaign (60% of the final grade), and a 2hour exam at the end of both Years 10 and 11.
