In a society where more and more young people lead sedentary lifestyles and the incidence of heart disease is on the increase, PE at North Birmingham Academy is concerned with promoting healthy lifestyles and exposing all students to a wide range of activities, to develop their physical, personal, social and coaching skills, in the hope that they will foster an interest in a particular sport(s) and then pursue it in later life.
As a school we are fortunate to have an extensive range of sporting facilities. The school is set in 22 acres of land which in winter holds three football pitches and one rugby pitch, and in summer an athletics track and cricket and rounder’s pitches. The school also has its own heated indoor swimming pool, two gymnasia and a hall. All areas are used to their full potential both during and after school hours.
All students are expected to participate in all PE lessons unless they are medically excused, in which case a note from home is required. If a student has a long term medical problem then a Doctors Certificate is needed.
The PE policy is that even if your child cannot take part practically in the lesson, he/she still needs to bring his/her kit so that they can be given an officiating or umpiring role.
All students must wear the correct P.E kit for their Physical Education lessons which is outlined below:
For safety it is also essential that all students have football boots, shin pads and a gum shield for the appropriate sports.
Alongside PE lessons the department runs an extensive programme of extra-curricular clubs where we encourage as many students as possible to come along and join in, whether it be purely for fun or the competitive element. These clubs run after school and include:
As a department we hope that we can work with you, as parents, to ensure that your child reaches his/her potential and enjoys PE lessons at North Birmingham Academy.
