The philosophy of the Music Department is:-

  • To promote a deeper understanding of the structure of music and its cultural and social contexts, both past and present.
  • To stimulate enjoyment and appreciation of all types of musical experience.

The Department

Music is taught in a specialist area of North Birmingham Academy.  We have a large classroom equipped with keyboards, a practice room, a sound - proofed drumming space which is used by our many and varied rock bands and a small apple mac suite and a class-set of i-macs, on which students record their own music and edit video projects.  A number of peripatetic instrumental teachers, producers and professionals visit the school regularly to work with our students.  For 2009/2010 we offer instrumental tuition on the following instruments
