MINISTER IN TIMELY TRIP TO NEW CITY ACADEMY

Schools Minister Vernon Coaker cut the ribbon at the opening of Birmingham’s latest academy school.

Mr Coaker, joined staff and pupils to open the North Birmingham Academy, which is based a the former College Road High on College Road, Erdington.

The Academy has more than 900 students and 180 staff, who contributed to a time capsule planted in the school grounds.

Other guests at the opening ceremony included Sir Bruce Liddington, former Schools Commissioner and Director General of Edutrust Academies Charitable Trust, the charity behind the new academy.

The school is the third academy to be sponsored by Edutrust.

Sir Bruce said:  “We are delighted to be making a contribution to delivering an excellent education and new opportunities for our students.”

Pupils will move into a purpose-built accommodation in 2012
