The Department:

Dance is a well established and vibrant department within the school and is proving increasingly popular with students of all ages, both boys and girls. Students study GCSE Dance at KS4. Gifted and Talented dance students have the opportunity to complete the GCSE by the end of year 10. All students in Year 7 and 8 study Dance weekly in our specialist Dance Studio.

Department Philosophy:

To promote dance through a range of styles, forms and techniques.

To stimulate enjoyment, appreciation and participation off all types of dance experiences.

Aims:

To encourage all students to fulfil their potential through the medium of dance in each of the following disciplines:

Appreciation:

To enhance dance appreciation skills when studying peer and professional works. To encourage individual interests, skills of enquiry and research into dance. To promote the capacity for self and peer evaluation.

Choreography:

To promote skill, knowledge and understanding of choreography through creative thought and action.

Performance:

To promote self-confidence in the performance of dance. To gain experience of performing to a variety of audiences in different types of venue.

Objectives:

  • To allow student self-expression through choreography and appreciation.
  • To allow all students to have the opportunity to perform various techniques to a range of audiences.
  • To acquire dance technical skills in a range of styles and forms.
