Course Overview

Students who enjoy a “hands-on” practical approach to their studies with plenty of real-life situations should opt for the BTEC First Certificate in Sport.  All assessment is through practical performance and coursework - so no written examinations at the end of the course.

Course Structure

100 % coursework
180 hours of work covered

Students have to cover a minimum of three units of work over 180 hours.  The units available include:

  • The Body in Sport
  • Health, Safety and Injury in Sport
  • The Sports Industry
  • Preparation for Sport
  • Planning and Leading Sports Activities
  • Practical Sport
  • Technical Skills and Tactical Awareness for Sport
  • Psychology for Sports Performance
  • Nutrition for Sports Performance
  • Fitness for Sports Performance
  • Lifestyle and Sports Performance
  • Work-based Project in Sport
  • Instructing Exercise and Fitness

The units will be chosen by the subject tutor after taking into account the strengths and interests of the group.
At the end of each unit of work students complete an assignment, the marks of which contribute towards the student’s final grade.
