BTEC First in Business
Course Overview
This course is ideal for students who are interested in getting to the heart of business problem solving and challenges.
It is particularly suited to students who are good at coursework and are keen to take part in discussions and presentations as there is an emphasis on this type of learning. Students need to have excellent attendance as deadlines for work cannot be moved due to absence.
The course will provide progression to BTEC diplomas or equivalent and is designed to engage students in three fundamental area of business rather than provide them with a wide basic knowledge.
Course Structure
The specification is delivered by Edexcel and is 100 % coursework with no examinations. The course comprises 3 units all of which have to be completed to obtain the qualification which is equivalent to two GCSE grades C or above.
The units studied are:
- Unit 1 Exploring Business Purposes
- Unit 5 People in Organisations
- Unit 9 Exploring Business Enterprise
Progression Routes & Qualifications
This course provides preparation for employment, a career in business and further education at both A Level and BTEC First Diplomas or Nationals. This is a natural choice for candidates wishing to progress to studies or careers in Business, Communication, Hospitality and Retail but is relevant to any employment as general knowledge.
Potential students are advised that the practical nature of the course means students with poor time management and organisation skills may struggle to be successful on this course.
